Effective Rehearsal Skills
Some simple rehearsal techniques rigorously applied can help Music Teams facilitate faster learning and more secure retention in their rehearsals.
Music Team members are usually appointed because of their vocal and/or musical skills. As such, they have the insight and experience to perceive what is needed to improve the performance they are working on, but they may not always be practiced in eliciting it as efficiently as possible. This practical workshop introduces some simple yet powerful techniques that will turn those insights into immediately audible results.
Those who are involved in the musical leadership of their choir - directors, assistant directors, section leaders, vocal coaches, performance coaches.
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Have a checklist of techniques they can apply in rehearsal
- Understand what makes those techniques effective
- Have experience both using the techniques and observing other team members use them
The workshop will alternate brief explanations of specific rehearsal tactics with practical work in which team members take it in turns to rehearse the rest of the team singing music from the choir's current repertoire. The focus will be on the detail of execution, with each team member getting specific feedback on what they are doing well, and where they sharpen up their interventions to maximise their impact.
Elements of this workshop work well in tandem with parts of The Musical Music Team workshop.
Resource document that summarises the concepts introduced and activities undertaken during the workshop, and gives suggestions for further reading and practical resource suggestions.
